Workshop
Rotation
Classes, Grades 1 – 5
We are
pleased to
continue our Workshop Rotation Model for
our children in grades 1 – 5 this year. This model teaches major
religious
education themes through kid-friendly multimedia workshops: Art, Drama
(puppetry, storytelling etc), Computers, Video, etc. The
multi-intelligences
approach is designed to take advantage of our children’s multi-modal
learning
styles. Each class will have a Guide whose role is to stay with the
same class
for the entire session and provide the consistency and structure for
the
morning.

Middle
School – That
Special Time, Grades 6 – 8
We felt
the
middle school students needed a Workshop
Rotation Model to meet the developmental needs of their particular age
group.
Borrowing from other congregations we came up with an idea for a
“Newsletter”.
In this model the kids serve as “investigative journalists” for that
publication. They have a “news room” in which there are laptop
computers and a
conference table where they can sit and share ideas. Then the teacher
assigns
them to different “beats” and sends them out to be investigative
journalists
observing the younger kids’ workshops. They discuss what they are
learning and
write their story. When the newsletter is complete it goes to print and
winds
up as an insert in the Order of Service and is sent out in the weekly
email! The kids enjoy it and the
congregation at large gets an entertaining update on what the kids are
doing,
from a kid’s perspective. The authors of the story get a kick out of
seeing
people read and enjoy their stories – and the younger kids love being
written
about!
