"We Care for Earth's Lifeboat" begins Sunday,
April 20, 2008 at 9:30a.m.
|
This
is an intergenerational class exploring our relationship with nature as part of
the interdependent web of life.
“If a
child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the
companionship of a least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with
him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in.” -
Rachel Carson, naturalist and author
You could
be that adult in a child's life! Do you enjoy getting to know people of
all ages in our congregation AND learning about ways we can be better
stewards of our planet’s resources? Here is an opportunity for young
and old, families, singles and couples, to come together and share
thoughts and feelings on an important topic – taking care of our planet!
Join us
for an interactive class that explores our relationship with nature as
part of the interdependent web of life, looks at our carbon footprint
and how it affects the planet, and offers suggestions for things that
we can do right now to adopt “cool lifestyle practices”. The Religious
Education Committee, Green Committee and the Spiritual Arts Committee
are working together to present a class for all ages that will help us
learn to take better care of “Earth’s Lifeboat.” On May 4th the class
will participate in the Blanket the Globe project. With the theme of
"Connections", the Blanket the Globe project is creating a montage of
one-foot fabric squares of artwork, showing how we are connected to
nature. According to their website the mission of the Blanket the
Globe Project is: “To build awareness, give voice to the
environmental concerns of children, and through creative expression,
empower them to participate in protecting the earth’s natural resources
for their future.” Please check out their website at www.blankettheglobe.net
